Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT)
Lymphedema is an accumulation of protein rich fluid which causes sweling in a specific area of the body.  The number one cause of Lymphedema in North America is Breast Cancer Surgery/Treatment.  This is a progressive condition and needs to be treated with Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Compression, Skin Care and Decongestive Exercises (known as Complete Decongestive Therapy).  People with living with this condition need to be treated by a Certfied Lymphedema Therapist to receive accurate and comprehensive treatment.

There are two phases of treatment - the intensive phase and the maintenance phase.  During the intensive phase, patients are treated ideally 3-5 times per week by the therapist for 1-4 weeks (depending on stage of the condition, this can be more or less).  After this, the client moves on to the maintenance phase, which includes self MLD, decongestive exercises, skin care and compression garments.
